Freightliner Trucks Honors First Hardest Working City

The Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities program launched at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis on March 4, 2015, with a press event naming Indianapolis as the first recognized city. Freightliner Trucks recognizes the dynamic role vocational trucks and the men and women behind them play in stimulating economies throughout the United States and Canada.

Freightliner Trucks conducted a thorough review of public and industry information to determine cities that were working the hardest and having success in driving the economy. Approximately 400 American and Canadian metropolitan areas were analyzed, using 11 different categories of data. This data ranged from total employment and average hours worked to the number of jobs in key industry sectors such as construction, manufacturing and logistics.

“Indianapolis is a great city to kick off the Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities tour. The city has taken excellent strides in generating employment opportunities through smart investments,” said Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “As we continue to recognize American and Canadian cities, we look forward to honoring those making a strong difference due to their hard work.”

To honor Indianapolis, Freightliner Trucks presented Brian Gildea, vice president of economic development from the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, with a creatively designed, concrete block award at the NTEA Work Truck Show during the press event. An award was also presented at a City Hall ceremony to Indianapolis Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Adam Collins.

Vocational truck owners and truck equipment manufactures also attended a celebration at Stoops Freightliner-Quality Trailer, part of the 20-location Truck Country dealership group. Attendees had the opportunity to get a close look at a number of Freightliner® vocational trucks, attend the awards presentation and enjoy food and refreshments. Freightliner Trucks also made surprise coffee and doughnut deliveries to the Indianapolis Department of Public Works and the Stoops Freightliner Service Center on the morning of the announcement.

Local vendors and dealers visited Stoops, and it was a great opportunity to take a moment and reflect on how great of a city we live in,” said Brian Frithcia of Stoops Freightliner-Quality Trailer. “It means a lot that Freightliner Trucks values the hard work happening in Indianapolis.”
