"There is an undeniable relationship between thriving cities and smart investments made in construction, manufacturing, and transportation that help create stronger communities. It’s important to us to acknowledge and thank cities such as Toronto that use our products to encourage determination, innovation, and job creation." — Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks

Toronto and Dallas are the latest cities to receive a Freightliner Trucks Hardest Working Cities award. They are in good company, joining Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Nashville and Los Angeles, which were honored earlier in 2015. These cities were selected after an exhaustive review of more than 400 metropolitan census areas in North America that looked at 11 different categories, including growth in employment rates, construction employment, infrastructure investment, vocational truck sales and more.

Based on this research, Toronto is the number one city in North America for construction, manufacturing, transportation and warehouse employment. It’s also a leader in the number of transportation establishments and vocational truck sales. Earlier this year, Toronto’s public works and infrastructure committee announced that the city will spend more than $500 million on construction projects in 2015, including $270 million on roads, expressways and bridges, $230 million on sewers and water mains, and $62 million on basement flooding protection.

Freightliner Trucks celebrated this hard work at an awards ceremony on Oct. 1 at Harper Truck Centres in Mississauga and made surprise visits to work sites with coffee, doughnuts and branded Freightliner gear to acknowledge the workers behind these projects that improve the city on a daily basis.

“There is an undeniable relationship between thriving cities and smart investments made in construction, manufacturing, and transportation that help create stronger communities,” said Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks. “It’s important to us to acknowledge and thank cities such as Toronto that use our products to encourage determination, innovation, and job creation.”

According to Freightliner’s research, Dallas is among the top five cities in North America for vocational truck sales, construction employment, heavy and tractor trailer truck drivers, and light truck and delivery drivers. It is third in the number of transportation establishments and contributes a high percentage to the Gross Domestic Product in the U.S.

Freightliner Trucks visited Dallas on November 4 and 5 for surprise job site visits and an award ceremony at Premier Truck Group.

Freightliner Trucks is currently reviewing data on metropolitan areas to select next year’s Hardest Working Cities honorees and will be hitting the road for more surprise job site visits, award ceremonies and face time with the people responsible for making it all happen.
